Late Song Jae-rim’s Message from Interview Before His Death “Some People Can’t Escape Reality”, Final Film Premieres on Netflix

Actor Song Jae-rim, who tragically passed away in November 2023, makes a posthumous return to the screen in his final project, the feature film “Crypto Man”, which premiered April 23, 2025 on Netflix. This release carries extra emotional weight as it marks the last appearance of the late actor, whose deep dedication to his craft left a lasting impression on the production.

Known for his diverse roles and delicate acting, Song Jae-rim’s portrayal in this film heightens expectations for another remarkable performance.
Song Jae-rim debuted in the 2009 film “Actresses” and built a broad spectrum of roles across genres with works like “Tunnel 3D”, “On Your Wedding Day” and “The Snob”. In 2022, he captivated audiences with a stunning visual transformation in “Yaksha: Ruthless Operations” and earned praise for his charisma and acting skills in “Bait”.

“Crypto Man” is a crime movie inspired by the real-life cryptocurrency crash that shook the world, wiping out 50 trillion won in value. The film chronicles the story of a young entrepreneur who makes irreversible choices, exposing the dark side of startup investments and depicting a reality where youths addicted to quick gains are caught between daytime stock trading and nighttime crypto speculation. In the newly released first trailer, Song Jae-rim portrays the self-proclaimed business genius Yang Do-hyun, who creates a cryptocurrency named MOMMY. The trailer captures the start of his downfall, as his ambitions drag not only himself but others into ruin. Despite starting with just 5 million won, Yang Do-hyun harbors dreams of turning it into 500 billion won, exuding overconfidence reminiscent of Elon Musk. His chilling line, “Do I look like a scammer?”, raises questions about the fate awaiting him, amplifying anticipation for the film.

In particular, in an interview before his death, Song Jae-rim remarked “It may seem reckless, but some people simply cannot escape reality“, hinting at a deeper message within his role.
“Crypto Man” is based on a real-life event that caused widespread losses, inspired by the infamous “Luna Coin” crash that has yet to see final legal resolutions. The production underwent thorough pre-investigative research and legal consultation to ensure accuracy and detail. The film is also supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency under its new media content production program.

Directed by Hyun Hae-ri, a former broadcast PD known for investigative journalism and acclaimed at the Cannes Drama Festival for works like “9 Times Fired”, “Crypto Man” adds a layer of realism to its story of corruption and downfall.
The cast includes Ahn Woo-yeon (Jealousy Incarnate, Strong Woman Do Bong-soon), Min Sung-wook (Three Bold Siblings, Big Bet), So Hee-jung (Miracle Brothers, Kairos) and Cha Jung-won (Horror Stories, The Lawless Lawyer, She Was Pretty).
Meanwhile, Song Jae-rim tragically passed away on November 12 at his residence in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, leaving fans heartbroken.
